Give Blood To End 2011 By Saving Lives At Our Plymouth Minnesota Blood Drive
Premier Health Chiropractic of Plymouth is hosting a Blood Drive at their office in conjunction with the American Red Cross Friday, December 30, 2011 from 1pm to 6pm. Dr. Brian Chmiel says, “One of the biggest reasons that we are holding this blood drive is because we want to show our community that we care about them.” A passion for blood donation is contagious. Doesn’t it feels great to be a part of saving lives?
Why host a blood drive?
By sponsoring a blood drive at Premier Health Chiropractic of Plymouth, we’re making blood donation convenient. We’re providing essential support to patients right here in our community. We’re joining a 125-year strong movement of community service — a partnership where everyone wins!
Support our community
In this technological age, we often communicate with each other virtually, without actual contact (e.g., text, IM, Facebook.) Sometimes we feel disconnected from those around us. Our blood drive is a fantastic example of our community coming together to help each other. People giving blood are showing love and compassion to a person that they have never met. When we share our blood, we give a small piece of who we are both physically and emotionally to the recipients. Although we may not laugh with them, cry with them or never know them personally … we still care about them and their health. Blood is life and it literally courses through us.
Our community is commited to supporting our blood drive
Local merchants, such as Rainbow Foods, are helping us promote this throughout the Twin Cities western suburbs. TwinWest Chamber of Commerce has our blood drive on their community calendar. During the holiday season, as we approach the New Year, we do our best to demonstrate our love and appreciation. With our blood drive, we are able to give a gift that cannot be purchased. Dr. Chmiel insists, “So, I guess my thought is not ‘Why are you having the blood drive?’ but rather ‘Why not?’”

WARNING: Flu Shots Are Not The Best Way To Prevent Influenza Virus
What’s Up With The Flu Shot?
The flu season is upon us again. Optimal health is largely a matter of how well you take care of yourself. How you deal with the flu virus — from other people and once you have it — definitely affects how you feel and the quality of your life. What you do when flu symptoms first appear will determine the severity and how long you will you suffer from it.
Do Flu Vaccinations Prevent The Flu Virus?
Ideally, we would avoid the flu altogether. Healthy living is not always enough to prevent contracting influenza virus from family, friends, coworkers and other people in close proximity to us. During the Second World War the US military developed the first approved inactivated influenza vaccines. In the 1950s, our current egg-based flu shots were developed and flu shot vaccine use increased dramatically during the 1990s. As good as this sounds, this has not come without vaccine side effects.
Flu Vaccine Side Effects Are Debatable
The flu vaccine and side effects have been a source of serious debate for several years. Every seasonal influenza vaccine contains three strains of influenza virus. There are many different strains of the flu and only a few are actually in the shot. Your protection from the flu shot may at best be like Russian Roulette.
Flu Vaccination Is Updated Every Year & Totally Untested
Flu vaccination is the only vaccine updated every year and is totally untested prior to being made available to the general public. One particular flu shot ingredient, Thimerosal, has proven long-term negative effects. It is still used to produce bulk flu vaccine, although it was banned in the early 21st century. A very limited quantity of flu shots without Thimerosal is produced every year; but it’s used up quickly and extremely difficult to obtain.
Flu Shot Ingredients Risk Alzheimer’s
Dr. Hugh Fudenberg, MD (http://nitrf.org/fudenberg.html), world renowned biologist and immunogeneticist, studied the link between flu shot vaccine and Alzheimer’s disease. He found that individuals who had “Five consecutive flu shots between 1970 and 1980 (the years studied), his/her chances of getting Alzheimer’s disease is ten times higher than if they had zero, one, or two shots.” At an international vaccine conference, in Arlington, Virginia in 1997, Dr. Fudenberg concluded repeated influenza vaccinations might increase chances of Alzheimer’s.
Flu Shots Can Be Replaced By Vitamin D
Dr. Donald Miller (http://donaldmiller.com), a cardiac surgeon and professor of surgery at the University of Washington and the Seattle VA Medical Center, recommends avoiding the flu shot entirely and taking Vitamin D instead. According to Dr. Miller, “Seventy percent of doctors do not get a flu shot.” Furthermore, “There is also a lack of evidence that young children benefit from flu shots. A systematic review of 51 studies involving 260,000 children age 6 to 23 months found no evidence that the flu vaccine is any more effective than a placebo.” There is also a risk of harm from the flu vaccine itself, particularly from the mercury, aluminum, and formaldehyde it contains.
Flu Shot Additives Are Well-Known Toxins
Flu shot additives are well-known toxins. According to Dr. Miller, two-thirds of the vaccines made for the 2008-09 flu season contained Thimerosal, which is 49% mercury by weight. Mercury is a neurotoxin 1,000 times more toxic than lead. Other ingredients in the flu vaccine include:
- Formaldehyde
- Aluminum
- Triton X-100
- Polysorbate 80
- Carbolic acid
- Ethylene glycol
- Gelatin
Antibiotics may cause allergic reactions in some people are also found in flu shot:
- Neomycin
- Streptomycin
- Gentamicin
Flu Shots Do Not Substitute For Good Health
Our patients often ask about flu shots. Premier Health Chiropractic feels the best flu prevention is good health:
- Eat correctly
- Washing your hands thoroughly
- Get good and adequate sleep
- Exercise regularly
- Reducing stress
Fight Flu Virus With Sunshine & Vitamin D
One of the best ways to prevent flu is simply getting enough vitamin D. Ideally, you would do this by getting outdoors in the sunshine. For most of us during the Winter season sunshine is not an option, which is why influenza is more prevalent in the winter. To prevent the flu, children need 2,000 IU of Vitamin D every day. Adults need between 4-5,000 IU’s of Vitamin D every day. You can monitor your Vitamin D level with a Vitamin D Hydroxy-25 blood test.

Ice Or Heat? How Do I Know How To Treat Personal Injury?
Whether you play sports, are banged up in a car accident or wrench your back mopping floors, personal injury can be painful. How severe is it? Do you need to seek professional care or can you treat this yourself? Your healing process depends quite a bit on what you do during those first few hours.
Choosing Ice Or Heat Can Be Confusing
Altering the temperature of an injury or pain can be quite beneficial to the healing process. Unfortunately for many of our patients, knowing whether to use ice or heat can be confusing. Knowing the effects that each has on the body will help you determine which will benefit your particular condition.
Acute Personal Injury Pain Comes On Quickly
Often differentiating between acute and chronic pain simplifies your choice of personal injury treatment. Acute pain occurs quickly and is usually rather short lived. This type of injury comes on suddenly, often the result of some kind of impact, like a sprained ankle or cracked rib.
Chronic Personal Injury Pain Develops Gradually
On the other hand, some injuries are gradual, becoming chronic over time. Beginning as dull pain, chronic pain usually results from improper or repetitive motion, although untreated acute pain can become chronic. Recurrent lower back pain and carpal tunnel are common examples of chronic injuries.
Ice Cold Therapy Numbs & Restricts Blood Flow
Cold therapy restricts blood vessels and blood flow. The application of ice thus decreases swelling and inflammation for acute and recent injuries. It also decreases pain with a numbing effect and promotes healing. In many low back and neck pain cases there is swelling of tissues and ice is recommended.
Hot Heat Therapy Relaxes & Moist Heat Penetrates
Heat therapy relaxes stiff muscles and calms spasms, allowing chronic injury to heal. The application of moist heat increases the circulation of the blood and decreases tension in the muscles and ligaments, causing increased swelling. Moist heat applications can be used on muscles for the relief of chronic muscle and ligament tension. Moist heat is preferred over dry heat because it penetrates the deeper tissue layers.
Whether Ice Or Heat, Alternate Treatment Applications
As a general rule we recommend our patients with low back and neck pain use ice on the spine for 20 minutes at a time and wait one hour before re-applying again for 20 minutes. Moist heat may be applied to the sides of the spine on the muscles only and not on the spine for 20 minutes. Whether ice or heat, alternate treatment applications with time for tissues to return to normal temperature.
Know The Nature Of Your Injury & Desired Treatment Effects
Of course, it’s very important to know the nature of your injury and the desired treatment effects prior to taking action. Proper self treatment of personal injury will promote healing and can eliminate the need for professional care. If you have any questions about which treatment you should use, contact your Premier Health Chiropractic Doctor. We are here to help you achieve optimal health.
