Detox To Lose Those Extra Valentine’s Day Pounds

If you’re like most people, you’ve probably indulged in candy and baked goods over Valentine’s Day weekend. It can be hard to turn down the large selection of chocolates, candy hearts, cookies and cakes when they’re given to you as gifts or passed around the workplace. If you’ve splurged a little too much over the past week, consider doing a detox to get your body back to normal. A detox can be just what you need to get you feeling great again!

A detoxification, or a detox, is a way of eliminating harmful toxins from the body. A detox can not only kick start weight loss and a healthy eating regimen, but it boosts your energy, strengthens your immune system, clears your mind for better thinking, and improves your skin, breath, hair, and your overall health and well-being.

A generally healthy person does not need to take any precautions before starting a detox, but people with some medical conditions should speak with their regular doctor or a chiropractor at Premier Health Chiropractors before beginning a detox. Our licensed chiropractors at Premier Health also offer nutritional counseling so if you are looking to lose weight and eat healthier, we can help! A detox can give you the boost you need.

If you’re new to detoxes, you will want to prepare for three days leading up to your detox. First, work to eliminate alcohol, dairy, meat, wheat, artificial sweeteners, trans fats, fast food, and processed foods from your diet. Instead, aim to eat raw vegetable salads, raw nuts and seeds, and lightly steamed vegetables. Eliminate caffeine, if possible. This will make your detox much easier! Like any detox, people will experience withdrawals and side effects when they stop eating the foods they consume the most. However, the side effects are short lived and you will eventually feel better than ever.

Before your detox, stock your kitchen with raw nuts and seeds, natural fruit juices, and lots of fruits and vegetables. These will be the main food items during your cleanse, so you want to make sure that you have plenty to eat in addition to your meal replacement smoothies. Most detox brands offer meal replacement smoothies that are filling enough where you don’t need anything else to eat, but it’s good to have options just in case.

During your cleanse, try to cut back on caffeine. If you typically only have a cup of black coffee each day, continue to drink coffee during your detox, but omit the cream and sugar. Same goes for teas. Be sure to drink at least eight classes of filtered water each day during your cleanse to ensure that you stay hydrated.

Before you begin a cleanse, do your research. Find a cleanse that works for you! There are many brands out there that claim to be safe and effective so reading reviews and doing research is very important. You will be glad you did!

To kick start your detox in the best way, schedule an appointment with your chiropractor at Premier Health and receive excellent chiropractic care before you begin your detox. We can help!
